KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Franchise Association (MFA) said its annual Franchise International Malaysia (FIM) exhibition and conference is a good platform for local franchisers to expand their business abroad.
“FIM is a good platform to introduce our home-grown brands to the international market,” MFA secretary-general Mohamad Shukri Salleh told reporters at a media briefing on FIM 2016 held by MFA yesterday.
“At the same time, it is also a good platform for the franchisers to test the market before they try to penetrate the market abroad,” he added, noting that as of to date, 60 local franchise brands have penetrated markets in 59 countries.
Shukri said the three-day FIM 2016 which will begin on May 6, will see participation of 120 local and overseas exhibitors, with more than 70 franchise companies.
He said among the overseas companies are those from the United States, Korea, Singapore, Australia, Taiwan, Indonesia and the Philippines.
“Among the overseas brands that will be exhibited include Gloria Jean’s Coffees, Cherie Hearts, Anytime Fitness and Kelab Turki, whereas the local brands include Marrybrown, Dailyfresh, SmartReader, Adan Laundry and many more,” he added.
Shukri said the 23rd international franchise exhibition and conference will be held at Putra World Trade Centre and is expected to attract RM370 million potential franchise investments, compared with RM369 million last year.
“We expect 12,000 visitors to attend this programme, from 10,500 last year,” he said, adding that RM20 million has been allocated for the programme that aims to expand the local franchise industry until 2020.
FIM 2016 is jointly organised by MFA and the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry (KPDNKK) and is recognised by the international franchise players World Franchise Council (WFC) and Asia Pacific Franchise Confederation (APFC).
It will assemble main players in the franchise sector from across the world to discuss current franchise issues and focusing franchise as a key strategy in developing entrepreneurship in Malaysia especially in retail and service sectors.
It is the largest annual franchising exhibition and conference in Southeast Asia.
