KUCHING: Sama Kampung Kitchen Ware Sdn Bhd is celebrating its grand opening with special prices on selected household items, the promotional period ending today.
This second branch located at Saddad Court opened last July but held its grand opening last Tuesday night.
According to Sama Kampung manager Kon Ai Wei, their target customers were food hawkers and restaurants as the store carries all manner of kitchenware and household goods on retail and wholesale basis.
Most products are locally sourced while others come from China, Thailand and Vietnam.
Sama Kampung at Saddad Court, Lot 216, Jalan Kulas, 93400 Kuching is open from 9am to 9pm on Monday to Saturday, and 9am to 6pm on Sundays and public holidays. It can be reached at samakampung@gmail.com.
Stutong Branch can be reached at 082-366022 while Satok Branch at 082-422577.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Sama Kampung CEO Musadad Sazali said they are in the final stages of turning the business into a franchise.
“I will soon appoint franchisees and train them to manage their own businesses. We will not open more in Kuching because there’s already two – here in Saddad Court and another in Stutong,” he said, adding that the name ‘Sama Kampung’ was inspired during a trip to Roban.
Musadad invites young entrepreneurs with at least a diploma, especially those from the Satok area, to pursue businesses and open outlets in places other than Kuching and Miri.
“It’s time for us to create our own avenues for our children to get into business and not depend solely on big companies to employ them.”
Musadad said Satok has its BN incumbent Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg to thank for its transformation into a cosmopolitan centre.
“I am in awe of the opposition because a youngster wants to go up against a veteran such as Abang Jo,” he said, referring to PKR’s Mohammad Salleh Shawkatali.
In his speech, Abang Johari expressed confidence that Sama Kampung would become a household name in the vein of Walmart or Mydin.
“Companies succeed because of prudent management and good marketing when people know your products. Sama Kampung is its own brand, therefore people will know you immediately.”
He urged them to go beyond Sarawak and Malaysia, and bring local products to sell in other countries.
“We have a lot of land. Taxes have been abolished to help those who have been farming a long time. If you have land, develop it. Plant fruits. We can sell them with other things we produce here.” he said.
Also present was Abang Johari’s wife Datin Amar Jumaani Tun Tuanku Bujang.
Meanwhile, when asked about rumours that former prime minister Tun Dr Mahatir Mohammad would be coming to Sarawak to collect signatures for the Citizens’ Declaration against Najib, Johari said he could not comment on things that were not confirmed.
