THE MALAYSIAN INSIDER – 13 JANUARY 2015
Deputy Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah said the industry contributed RM26.8 billion (2.7% of GDP) in 2015 and RM24.6 billion (2.5% of GDP) the preceding year.
“The franchise industry in Malaysia is expanding every year, and it’s a good sign when more and more people are venturing into it, benefiting the country by enhancing the domestic economy,” he said at the close of a Bumiputera franchisor enhancement programme today.
The event, organised by Perbadanan Nasional Bhd (PNS), was attended by 62 franchisors from 42 companies as well as PNS Chairman Datuk Seri Syed Ali Syed Abbas Al Habshee and Managing Director Datuk Syed Kamarulzaman Syed Zainol Khodki Shahabudin.
Ahmad Bashah said the programme, comprising consultations and guidance sessions for Bumiputera franchisors who attended a franchise rating programme last year, gives franchisors and potential franchisees better access to financing from financial institutions.
Sixty-five Bumiputera franchisors have participated in the franchisor rating scheme since its launch in 2013.
Ahmad Bashah said the ministry targets to have 1,000 franchise companies registered with it by 2020, up from the current 807. – Bernama, January 13, 2016.
