Petaling Jaya, 25 October 2018,
The first sign-language-driven Starbucks store in the United States opened its doors on Thursday (Oct 23), two years after the franchise’s “Signing Store” in Malaysia set a precedent.
Starbucks’ very first sign-language store was opened in Bangsar in Kuala Lumpur in 2016.
Seeing the success of the outlet, American Starbucks employees studied the branch, and soon plans to set up more sign-language stores were put in motion.
“The store will create a distinctive retail experience for all customers, while offering a unique store format that promotes accessibility and offers employment and career advancement opportunities for deaf and hard-of-hearing people,” the company said in 2017 when it announced its plans.
