Nelson’s Franchise (M) Sdn Bhd, which pioneered the corn-in-cup concept in 1992, has introduced yet another innovative product called Freeze Dried Corn.
Speaking at the launch recently, Nelson’s Franchise (M) Sdn Bhd founder and managing director Nelson Kwok said the sweet corn snack used a “space food technology”, a 12-hour freeze-drying process in -40°C, which is the first of its kind in Malaysia.
“The natural corn kernels are processed by extracting 98% of water content while retaining its nutrients, sweetness, taste as well as the original colour.
“As a healthy snack, it has high dietary fibre, high protein, low sodium, low saturated fat and zero transfat,” said Kwok, adding that the sweet corn were grown in Malaysia.
After a year of thorough research and product development, Nelson’s Freeze Dried Corn is now available at all Nelson’s outlets and comes in two sizes – a box of 10 containing 8g sachets for RM18 and a 45g-packet for RM9.60.
“So far the response has been overwhelming and we are looking at a 30% turnover increase for this new product alone,” said Kwok.
In addition to corn-in-cup and freeze dried corn, Nelson’s is also exporting its frozen whole kernel sweet corn overseas to support its franchise in more than 800 locations globally while retailing corn products at fast food outlets and restaurants in Malaysia.
“We are continuously coming up with new ideas and innovating new corn products to provide our customers a wider range of choices,” said Kwok, adding that a new corn drink and corn cereal would soon be introduced.
Held in conjunction with the Malaysia Retail, Franchise and Licensing Fair (MIRF) 2016 at Mid Valley Exhibition Centre, the launch saw the presence of Matrade chief executive officer Datuk Zulkifli Mahmud, Malaysia Retail Chain Association president Datuk Liaw Choon Liang and MIRF 2016 organising chairman Datuk Liew Bin.
