KUALA LUMPUR, June 13, 2015:
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said financial institutions must provide micro credit schemes.
He said this is necessary in order to help people who want to start the franchise business, especially those from the low income group.
“We want more entrepreneurs to receive aid and necessities in starting a franchise business.
“I urged all parties to support franchise entrepreneurs especially young people in expanding their business,” he said.
He pointed out that through the National Franchise Development Master Plan 2016-2020 (PIPFN), the industry could provide up to 50,000 job opportunities especially for future generations.
In order to realise it, the franchise industry is encouraged to venture into fields which would be more profitable in the long run such as education, green products and medical tourism.
“I’m proud that our efforts to date are recognised at the international level,” he said.
At the same, Najib said he is proud that 60 Malaysian franchise companies had penetrated 55 overseas markets.
He said products sold by the companies involved 2,160 outlets worldwide.
“This is an important effort in the context of successfully making the franchise industry a part of the economy,” he said during the launch of the Franchise International Malaysia (FIM2015) at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) today.
FIM2015, touted as the largest annual franchising exhibition and conference in Southeast Asia, is the only franchise event officially sanctioned by the Domestic Trade, Co-Operatives and Consumerism Ministry (MDTCC) and Malaysian Franchise Association (MFA).
A total of 85 franchise companies from United States, Australia, Singapore, Indonesia, Korea and Taiwan are taking part in the exhibition.
Also present at the launch was Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Seri Hasan Malek.
