PUTRAJAYA, April 23 (Bernama) — Sixty local franchise firms have expanded overseas, opening 2,380 outlets in 55 countries, through the ‘Franchise Malaysia Goes Global’ programme, said Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Seri Hasan Malek.
The outlets, which are also in major cities such as Tokyo, London, New York and Sydney, show Malaysian franchise companies’ international competitiveness,he said when opening Franchise Day 2015 at his ministry here today.
Hasan said the franchise industry contributed RM25.6 billion or 2.6 per cent to the Gross Domestic Product last year, and this year the ministry expects the contribution to rise to RM27.7 billion.
A total of 771 franchise firms are registered with the ministry, he said. Franchise Day, introduced by the ministry last year, aims to promote the franchise business to the public, civil servants, graduates and prospective retirees.
This year’s two-day event beginning today features 54 local franchise firms and master franchisees.
