KUALA LUMPUR, June 14 (Bernama) — Coolblog Dessert Sdn Bhd, a homegrown dessert and beverage company, is keen to help Bumiputera entrepreneurs venture into the food and beverage (F&B) industry through its franchising scheme.
Executive Director Jerrene Pang Hsiao Yuin said 90 per cent of its franchisees are Bumiputeras as it was the first bubble tea chain to be certified halal by the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim).
The halal-certified brand has build confidence among Muslim consumers.
“As the only halal-certified brand among tea drinks, it gives our entrepreneurs the advantage of catering to the Muslim population,” she told Bernama on the sidelines of Franchise International Malaysia 2014.
Obtaining the halal certificate from Jakim in 2010, the take-away dessert operator will conduct impromptu check-ups on suppliers to ensure they follow the halal compliance standard.
Pang also said Coolblog has 320 outlets currently and it planned to enter Thailand, Cambodia and the Philippines in five years’ time.
Earlier this year, the brand opened two outlets in Surabaya, Indonesia and plans to open 10 more outlets there by year-end.
The company recorded sales of RM70 million last year and it expects a sales growth of 15 to 20 per cent annually.
Pang added that the company, which offers 300 products, has a share of 45 per cent of the take-away F&B dessert market at present.
“The monthly consumption of our drinks is about two million cups,” she said.
The total investment for an outlet is RM130,000, while the average monthly income for one kiosk is between RM30,000 and RM40,000 depending on the location.
