Chatime Malaysia Sdn Bhd, the Malaysian master franchisor of Chatime — a Taiwan-based global franchise teahouse chain — has received its halal certification from the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim).
Group MD Aliza Ali said the halal certification would enhance consumer con dence and enable the company to expand its operations globally, especially in West Asia. She said the recognition would also help consumers to differentiate between Chatime and Tealive.
“Chatime and Tealive have nothing to do with each other. Chatime and Tealive do not sell the same drinks or derive our drinks from the same ingredients. The public misconception has to be corrected,” she told reporters after Chatime was presented with the halal certification in Putrajaya yesterday.
Aliza said the Chatime brand entered the Malaysian market in 2011, with Will Group being the sole owner of Chatime Malaysia, as well as the master franchisor of Chatime last year.
The global brand owner of Chatime is La Kaffa International Co Ltd. Chatime now has 34 outlets nationwide, with the opening of 30 outlets last year.
“Next month, eight more outlets will be opened in several locations, including the Langkawi Jetty, Penang’s First Avenue, Plaza Masalam, Genting Highlands and AEON Mall Kuching.
“In the fourth quarter of this year, Chatime will open its outlets in Makkah and Madinah, while next year we will have an outlet at Singapore’s newest mall, Jewel Changi,” Aliza said.
She added that Chatime Malaysia’s vision is to open an additional 150 domestic and international outlets with an investment of RM100 million and a sales target of RM1.2 billion.
